We recently went to the Santa Barbara Zoo for Members Night. One of Em’s favorite things was sliding down the “Ant Hill” on cardboard. I think we have a bit of a daredevil on our hands.

Emma’s a big fan of slides - both big and small. She likes to slide down, climb up, and generally act like a monkey. This particular day at the park was no exception.

Emma and Daddy were playing outside and Emma wanted to show off her counting skills. She used to be weary of any sort of still or video camera, but now she’s warmed up to it.

Emma went to her friend Jeffrey’s birthday today at Tucker’s Grove Park. When we arrived there was a giant bounce house. At first, Em was scared. Then, after a few minutes she started to warm up to the big Elmo plastered on the outside of it. After a few more minutes she decided she wanted to go in and try it. For the next hour, we couldn’t get her out!

After five long weeks, Emma got her cast off today. She actually handled the loud cast saw really well and was more curious than anything. She never ceases to surprise and amaze us.
I realize I am incredbly biased, but I think this girl’s some real talent for music. She’s 19 months old and has a broken wrist - yet, she is playing some darn good piano.

One of Emma favorite things to do is imitate sounds she hears in everyday life. Some of her favorites are “lion”, “doggie” and, as you’ll see here, “motorcycle.”
Happy 4th of July! What’s more American than skateboarding? Emma enjoys a decidedly California pastime at Grandma and Grandpa’s house in San Luis Obispo, CA.
Every girl’s gotta get her groove on once in awhile, right? Em and Mama rockin’ to some Snoop-style hip-hop.

Daddy and Emma were playing in the living room with blocks. Daddy built a pyramid and then Emma took over and started stacking blocks higher and higher!
One of Emma’s favorite things to do is “show” Mia her crackers. Mia’s head looks like it’s going to explode, but she never takes the cracker from her. Today we played “show me the cracker” in the backyard.
Emma discoveres the joy of the backyard sprinkler on a warm Santa Barbara day. She had such a blast learning about how the sprinkler moved and how the water sprayed. You can see pictures over at Flickr.

At almost 16 months, Emma likes to climb and dance. Daddy will admit it wasn’t the smartest thing to let her climb on the chair, but it was really cute.

Emma celebrated her 1st birthday on january 31st 2009! We had a small gathering of our west coast family, some people from Mommy’s PEP Group and a few other friends. Emma had a great day and we enjoyed watching her play with her new wagon, eat cake and open presents!

This was an experiment on all levels. First, it was Emma’s first Christmas and we wanted to capture it. All of it. So, Daddy pulled out the camera during the five days of Christmas in five towns, two states, and two coasts. Second, it was Daddy’s first time shooting video and stills with his new camera. It’s needs work, but you get the idea.
Happy New Year!
It’s the holiday season and we thought it would be fun to take her downtown to the Santa Barbara Holiday Parade on State Street. Emma and about 45,000 of her closest friends watched as the parade went by!

We went and saw our good friend, Inga Swearingen, perform at the gardens at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Besides the fact that she is an award-winning jazz artist, she also won over our little Emma’s heart. “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” is Emma and Mama’s favorite song to sing together so when Inga performed it, she pretty much gained a fan for life!
Uncle Todd & Aunt Cheryl bought Emma a Raz-Berry. She loves it. We think it feels good on her teething gums.
